The area currently known as Fort Bragg initially came into existence as Camp Bragg in 1918 under General William J. Snow. In September, 1922, Camp Bragg became Fort Bragg and over the next several years permanent structures were erected and considerable progress was made. Throughout the years the soldiers of Fort Bragg have been a part of history at every turn; From Jacqueline Kennedy requesting that men from their division assist in the burial of President John F. Kennedy, paratroopers reinstating duly elected Haitian president Jean Aristide, to assisting with the clean-up after the devastation of Hurricane Andrew.
Naturally you must have a legitimate reason for entering Fort Bragg. There is a link at the bottom of this page that will offer more complete information as far as requirements and opportunities to explore this amazing piece of our nation’s history. There is a Fort Bragg Museum and hours for that are covered as well.
